Many years ago I was given a word that ‘God cannot steer a stationary vehicle’. The application of this was that I desired to go forward with my life but was too scared to let go of the past and remained fearful of current circumstances. Thus I discovered that no one else was holding me back, but I was not allowing myself to move forward. It can be likened to being sat in the driver’s seat of a car, with the engine running and ‘ready to go’, and yet whenever I tried to press the accelerator (in my desire to move), the car remained still, and would often ‘stall’. I mistakenly reasoned to myself, ‘that means God must not want me to go forward then’ since nothing seemed to happen. But God spoke to me saying “I have given you everything you need to move on with your life.”
He went on to remind me, “I have redeemed your past and I AM helping you within your present situations. Now I long for you to have a hope and a future in Me, but you won’t let go of the past and are overly concerned about the present.” I then realised, in the car I was imagining, that I still had hold of the handbrake! I wanted to remain ‘in control’, despite the fact that my own efforts had not previously worked! The latter thing here was wrong thinking which once again needed to be submitted to God and changed (i.e. renewed ~ Rom 12:2). Therefore, the ‘car of my life’ could go nowhere until I ‘released the brake’ and allowed the car to set into motion, trusting the ‘Navigator of my soul’ to lead and to guide.
I can also be confident that He equips me (and you) for the tasks ahead by the power of His Holy Spirit and through His Living Word (1 Cor 12:7 / 2 Tim 3:16-17). The truth is that God can be trusted, at all times, in all circumstances (1 Cor 1:9). But often we need to learn how to lean on Him and be confident in His ability in all things (2 Cor 9:8). The Bible tells us that God will never leave us nor forsake us (Heb 13:5) and that Jesus will never cast us away (John 6:37). This is something we can depend on now, tomorrow, next week, next year, and all of our lives (Prov 23:18).
One day Jesus will return to the earth, and all heaven shall be let loose! (Acts 1:10-11 / Rev 22:12-14). This is another reason to take comfort and hope in God for our future (Ps 42:5). It is He who restores our strength and renews us from within (Is 40:31). We are always learning, and sometimes relearning! But let’s trust God with our future and not lose heart, for He is always looking after us, often unseen to our natural eyes (Jer 29:11/ 2 Cor 4:16-18). Let’s focus on Him 😊
Romans 15:13 and 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit…. we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Prayer
Thank You Lord that in You I have a hope and a future, for Your mercies are new every morning! Every day I am filled with Your love and grace, and I want to extend that love and grace to others in my life. So I choose to make You Lord of my future, as I know that You have good plans for me because of Your eternal covenant with me made through the finished work of The Cross. You are good and even pray for me in the courts of Heaven! You are my trustworthy Lord and my eternal guide. You show me which way to go by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Therefore, I have everything I need to live for You and please You; and how amazing it is to know that in Christ I already do! In Jesus Name, Amen.
