You and I are (in essence) spiritual beings, with a unique personality, living in a physical body in a physical realm (1 Thess 5:23). We often think of our physical heart, which pumps blood into every part of our physical body, carrying oxygen and nutrients to give it life and energy. But we also have a ‘spiritual heart’ deep within us that includes our personality.

It is our ‘spirit and soul’ together that make up our whole heart ~ for our spirit is the part of us that is connected to God’s Heart (even if we don’t always ‘feel’ our spirit, it is still there), while our soul is our unique personality, consisting of our natural mind, will and emotions.

That’s why it is so important to bring our natural mind in line with what God says; otherwise we will only concentrate on what we physically feel in our emotions or our physical body (i.e. whether there are feelings or sensations of negative or positive in those areas).

Psalm 86:12 (TLB) May every fiber of my being unite in reverence to Your name. With all my heart I will praise You. I will give glory to Your name forever

We need to remember that God is always positive about His children: for the Bible tells us that He rejoices over you and I with singing (Zeph 3:17). It also tells us that He has an awesome love for us (1 John 3:1).

This has the power to bring joy (Neh 8:10) and unite our whole heart (spirit and soul) if we allow it to.
